Root Canal Therapy
What is a Root Canal?
When tooth pain strikes, a root canal can often save your natural tooth and prevent more serious dental problems down the road. At Live Oak Endodontics, we specialize in gentle, efficient care using advanced endodontic technology. Our mission is to relieve discomfort, protect your oral health, and help your smile look and feel its best.
Why do I need to visit an Endodontist?
Bacteria introduced into the dental pulp as a result of tooth decay, periodontal disease, tooth fractures, or other pathological conditions can cause severe damage to the pulp tissue.
When that happens, an endodontic specialist, such as Dr. Gustin or Dr. Andrews, removes the diseased pulp to save the tooth and prevent further infection and inflammation. After successful endodontic treatment, the tooth continues to perform normally.
With today’s cutting edge technology, most root canal procedures can be performed in one or two office visits. Please remember the length of the procedure and number of appointments depends on many patient specific factors.
Does the treatment hurt?
With modern technology and better anesthetics, most patients report a pain-free experience and can expect minimal discomfort. Our doctors and staff at Live Oak Endodontics will explain all procedures to our patients, which helps ease a lot of anxiety.
What should I expect after treatment?
You may be prescribed antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medications, or pain medications to ensure your comfort. As each patient’s condition is unique, all prescriptions will be tailored to your individual needs.
Upon completion of your root canal therapy, a detailed record of your treatment will be forwarded to your restorative dentist. You are advised to contact their office to schedule an appointment within three weeks of completion at our office. Your restorative dentist will determine the appropriate type of restoration required to protect and restore your tooth.
Complications following routine endodontic treatment or microsurgical procedures are uncommon. However, should any concerns arise, our team remains readily available to provide prompt assistance.
